Our Favorite Hairstyles from Cannes Film Festival 2023: A Roundup of the Best Looks

The Cannes Film Festival is not only a celebration of cinema, but also an annual fortnight showcase of celebs, models and venerated fashion folk all decked out in their red carpet finery. Also on display? The latest in hairstyles and perhaps even a glimpse of the next trends.

Below your Helix Hair Labs pals delve into the hair that stole the spotlight at the Cannes Film Festival 2023 and explore our favorite styles that made heads turn.

Effortless Waves

One of the timeless and universally flattering hairstyles that dominated the red carpet at Cannes this year was effortless waves. We saw lots of different takes on waves, from Jasmine Tookes, Lalisa Manobal and Kaia Gerber, to Ashley Graham’s wet waves look. We also loved the waves playing longer again, compared to the wave bob/lob we saw earlier this year. At Cannes, waves complemented a wide range of outfits, from flowing gowns to tailored suits, making it a perfect choice for almost any look.

Old Hollywood Glamour

Old Hollywood and the classic updo never go out of style, so we loved seeing everyone’s take at Cannes this year. Whether it was a sleek chignon, twisted bun or a meticulous finger wave bob, these hairstyles exuded grace, an air of sophistication and always felt powerful. We particularly loved Winnie Harlow’s low chignon and the beautiful look Storm Reid delivered with a statement red lip. We also adored Salma Hayek’s high updo with a swept side part, and Sofia Carson who went all in with a statement necklace and long gloves to finish off her Old Hollywood style.

Sleek Ponytail

For a modern and polished look, the sleek ponytail was a popular choice at Cannes this year. Poppy Delevingne and Georgina Rodriguez embraced this hairstyle, which accentuated their faces and showcased the beautiful designs they wore. A sleek pony was also a smart choice for Cannes, where it can be quite hot during the festival. Leomie Anderson also brought beautifully coiffed baby hairs with her sleek pony and we were delighted they were not left at home.

The End of a Gen Z Trend?

One last thing we noticed at Cannes Film Festival 2023 was the reappearance of the side part. Rafa Kalimann, Gemma Chan and Cate Blanchett, among others, were spotted with side parts in both up and down-dos. We just have to wonder, is the strangle hold that Gen-Z has had on the middle part beginning to ease up? Only time will tell!
